Built for Hatching Success
Rather than trying to heat the whole brooder, the Origin 25 × 30cm plate creates a warm spot your chicks move underneath when they want it — just like ducking under a mother hen. They warm up, then come back out to eat, drink and explore. Keep food and water outside the heated zone and they'll come and go all day, choosing the temperature they're comfortable in rather than being surrounded by the same heat everywhere. Your chicks are the best thermometer you've got: spread out, active and relaxed is exactly what you want to see.
Brooding conditions are never quite the same twice, which is why a matched temperature regulator is part of every Origin kit rather than an optional accessory. Set the warmth when your chicks first go under, then ease it back as they feather up and need less heat, instead of relying on plate height alone. Start the plate low so tiny day-olds can tuck in easily and raise it on its adjustable legs as they grow, while the clear protective cover keeps them off the top and makes the whole thing easier to keep clean. At around 20W it draws far less than a typical heat-lamp setup, with no hot globe glowing over your chicks and bedding all night.

Full product details, manual & warranty
Mother-hen warmth — with the control most plates leave out.
Give your newly hatched chicks the gentle warmth they need, without a hot globe running over their heads all night.
The Origin 25 × 30cm Brooder Heat Plate Kit warms your chicks the way a hen does — soft radiant heat from underneath that they tuck into when they need it, then wander out of to eat, drink and explore. It's a lower-wattage alternative to a heat lamp, with no exposed hot globe running above your chicks and bedding.
But here's where Origin is different from a bare plate: you're in control of the heat from day one. Every kit includes the plate, a clear protective cover and a temperature regulator — matched, and ready to run out of the box.
Everything's in the box

No hunting down a regulator or cover separately. It's all here.
Why the regulator matters
Some brooder plates can run warmer than expected, particularly as conditions change. Without a regulator, your main adjustment is raising or lowering the plate. Origin gives you another level of control, letting you adjust the heat output as well as the height.
You can set the warmth when your chicks first go under, then ease it down as they feather up and need less heat.
That's why the regulator is part of every Origin kit — because we believe you should have control over the heat, not because it's an optional accessory.
Why choose an Origin Brooder Heat Plate?
Gentle radiant warmth
Rather than trying to heat the whole brooder, the Origin plate creates a warm spot your chicks move underneath when they want it — just like ducking under a mother hen. They warm up, then come back out to eat, drink and explore.
Heat you can actually adjust
Brooding conditions are never quite the same twice. Chick size, age, the weather and the room all change how much warmth your birds need. With the included regulator you adjust the heat output to suit them — and gradually reduce it as they grow — instead of relying on plate height alone.
Height that grows with them
Start the plate low for tiny day-olds so they can tuck in easily, then raise it on its adjustable legs as they grow. No need to rebuild your setup as the weeks go on.
Cover included
Anyone who's raised chicks knows exactly where they want to sit — on top of everything. The clear protective cover keeps them off the top of the plate and makes the whole thing easier to keep clean.
Low power, no exposed globe
At around 20W, the 25 × 30cm plate draws far less than a typical heat-lamp setup — and there's no hot globe glowing over your chicks and bedding all night.

More than a bare plate
We didn't want Origin to be another stripped-back heat plate that leaves you buying extras or with no way to adjust the heat. The regulator and cover come with every kit — because a brooder plate you can't control isn't really finished.
How it works
The idea is simple:
Chick gets cold → tucks under the plate → warms up → comes back out.
Your chicks get a warm area to duck into while the rest of the brooder stays cooler, so they can move between warmth and space as they please. Keep food and water outside the heated zone and they'll naturally come and go all day.
The plate creates a concentrated warm area underneath rather than trying to heat the whole room — which is exactly why being able to adjust the heat matters, and why the regulator earns its place.
Let your chicks tell you
Your chicks are the best thermometer you've got. Watch them.
Too cold if they're:
- packed tightly under the plate
- piling on top of one another
- cheeping loudly or unsettled
- reluctant to leave the warm area
Lower the plate a little, or turn the regulator up.
Too warm if they're:
- avoiding the plate
- pushing as far from the heat as they can
- panting
Raise the plate, or wind the regulator back.
Just right when they're spread out, active and relaxed — ducking under for a warm-up and wandering off again. That's exactly what you want to see.
Setting up your Origin plate
1. Prepare the brooder. A clean, dry, draught-protected area with good bedding, food and fresh water.
2. Position the plate. Start low, so newly hatched chicks can get underneath easily without squeezing or crowding.
3. Set the regulator. Begin with a suitable heat setting and let the plate warm for 10–15 minutes before the chicks go under.
4. Watch your chicks. Their behaviour is your best guide — adjust the regulator and height until they settle.
5. Adjust as they grow. As they feather up, raise the plate and ease the heat back. Eventually they'll be off supplementary heat altogether — usually around five to six weeks, depending on breed and weather.
A warm area — not a hot brooder
A heat plate works differently from trying to heat the entire brooder. Your chicks should always have:
A warm area under the Origin plate — and — a cooler area to eat, drink and move around.
That way they choose the temperature they're comfortable in, rather than being surrounded by the same heat everywhere. Always keep the brooder out of cold draughts and away from temperature extremes.
How many chicks?
The 25 × 30cm plate is built for growing broods. Treat any capacity figure as a guide — breed, chick size and age all change how many birds comfortably fit at once. The rule that matters: every chick should be able to get to the warmth without crowding or piling.
Between two sizes? Go up. Chicks grow surprisingly fast, and a plate that looks enormous on hatch day can feel crowded within a fortnight.

Part of the Origin range
Origin is built to work together, from the first egg to the last chick off heat:
Incubate → Candle → Monitor → Brood
Your Brooder Heat Plate sits alongside Origin incubators, candlers and monitoring — one range, designed as a complete hatching-to-brooding setup. Putting a full kit together? Get in touch and we'll help you sort the right pieces for your flock.
Already have an incubator? Pair your Origin plate with one of our Metal Brooders for a complete brooding setup — a good option if you're expanding your gear or regularly bring home day-old chicks.
Common questions
Is a Brooder Heat Plate safer than a heat lamp? It removes the exposed hot globe a heat lamp relies on and runs at a much lower wattage. As with any electrical heating product, install and operate it correctly and keep it in a suitable brooding environment.
Why does the Origin plate include a regulator? Because these plates can run warmer than expected as conditions change, and we want you in control of the heat. Rather than relying only on raising and lowering the plate, the regulator lets you adjust the output as conditions change and as your chicks grow. That's why it's part of the kit, not an add-on.
Why is the cover included? Chicks climb on everything they can reach. The cover keeps them off the top of the plate and helps keep it clean.
How high should I set the plate? Low enough that newly hatched chicks can get to the warmth underneath without squeezing, then raised progressively as they grow. Watch your chicks after each adjustment and let their behaviour guide you.
How long will my chicks need heat? It varies with breed, growth, feathering and the weather — but most are off supplementary heat by around five to six weeks. Use the regulator and legs to ease the heat down gradually rather than cutting it suddenly.
Can I use it for ducklings, quail or other poultry? Yes — it suits a range of young poultry. Height, heat needs and growth differ between species, so set it up to suit the birds you're raising.
Do I need to buy the regulator separately? No. Every Origin kit includes the matched temperature regulator as standard.
Is the cover extra? No. The protective cover is included with every kit too.
